My work gives me a Blackberry with voice and email service. As much as a like the full keyboard and ability to email, the voice quality on every Blackberry I've tried is mediocre. I also wish it had some of the more modern features found on Ericsson phones, such as a Stylus.
I've seen old news blurbs claiming that company x was going to be releasing a phone that was compatible with Blackberry email servers, but I can't find anything concrete.
Can I replace my phone with a non-Blackberry device and still have it work with my company's Blackberry email server? Will I still be able to use the push email that's integrated with the company's Microsoft Exchange mail system? Will my calendar and address book still be wirelessly synced with the company directory?
Thanks!
What OTHER phones are compatible with Blackberry email servers?
sony ericsson m600
nokia.. i forget the model number now.. look it up
Reply:I'm going to answer this telling you what parts of my answer I'm sure about and which I'm not. I am sure that the blackberry email only works for blackberry devices. As far as email goes though, you would be able to stay in the loop, if you will, as long as the device you have has POP capabilities, which would allow you access to yahoo and hotmail servers and more, I'm sure about that but the aspect of this with which I'm not familiar, is that features and abilities you have with the entire thing being through blackberry, but just as far as emails, you're still fine there. As far as Microsoft Exchange, anything with Windows 5.0 should be able to utilize that, I'm sure. Now as far as your calendar and address book....you can positively sync these things to a computer and worst case scenario, you'll have to input the directory manually, which I understand is probably horrible. I think it should be able to be transfered though, it's just the encoding may change depending on how condensed the software is (which I'm not at all sure about) but once you have it, you won't lose it for sure...phones you need to buy in order for my answer to be true: If you have Cingular, the phones that can sync are: blackjack, 8525, treo 680 and 750, 3125, 2125, e62 and there is a newer blackberry called the pearl, it's unlike other blackberries. If you have a differerent carrier than those, any TREO, HTC, HP or BLACKBERRY will work. i have and work for cingular, so if you have them, first of all, sorry, but that list should help you. i know tmobile has the sidekick 3...not so much a business man's phone and it also has that blackberry pearl and a phone called the MDA, very nice phone. Hope that was helpful, which if for any reason it was, me telling you which things I'm sure about should be the reason because as I'm sure you've discovered, you'll find contradicting info all over the place online...and unfortunately at stores and calling customer care. So hopefully I was a help. I'm not going to edit what I typed but I noticed you asked "wirelessly synced"...I'm just going to have to say no to that because I really don't think it will but atleast now, you'll only have one main question to ask when you by your new phone.
