i configured external mail to my yahoo account


when i try to "get mail" from this server I'm getting lastUnsupported error.


and POP client (like outlook) works fine


SMTP (sending) works fine even from Yahoo site.

The recent changes Yahoo has made has temporarily made ypops unable to download your mail. However they are working on a new version the will allow you to once again download your email with out subscribing to Plus!





As of 4/10/08 they have a rough version available for testing. But it is not done or fully stable, I would wait.

That's a very low load for 7,000 users. Apparently this company *hates* email. For the sake of portability, manageability, and security, I would use dedicted servers for the email of that many users.

Reply:Added to some of the above. If it is down to you to implement a mail system for 7000 users you have to consider:





The operating system mail is being hosted on. I.e Windows/Linux


I can only speak for the Windows Platform.


Microsoft Exchange Server requires very heavy dedicated Hardware resources. The bigger the better!!


If this is your route you should also consider more than one server.


Is the mail-store going to be stored on the Server/Servers?





1 server will require several RAID array configured to RAID 5


For Multiple Servers in the Same Server room a Storage Area Network is a possible solution.


The Backup solution will require a Multitape drive than can back up your mail-stores in the backup window.


The backup software must be capable of backing up Exchange Mailstores. Veritas Backup Exec is very good (10d).


It must be scalable. (With room to grow!) You wanna see some of the mail-stores I've seen!


If each user is going to have mail delivered to local machine (PST File) you have to come up with a solution to back up these files. Added to that PST files have a 2 GB limit. Some people keep every mail!


Don't forget you anti-virus solution very carefully! I used Norton and although is great at Enterprise level solution it has been beaten in the past by viruses attacking the E-mail system.

For a such amount number of users you should use a Raid 5 System Server so you'll not loose data if any Server will be broken.
Reply:It is strongly recommended that you use a dedicated server for Mailing purposes as you can leave SMTP(465)and POP3(445)ports open and block any other port because of security reasons.


You can manage your security better.
Reply:For that many users? Definitely a dedicated email server. I think you're underestimating the message load greatly, figuring that each user would get less than 4 emails a day. Don't forget about spam!





And nothing personal, but if you're the person in charge of recommending or making this decision, maybe you should defer to a professional that can access your needs in person and recommend the best solution for you.

I would recommend TWO servers (for resilience purposes), of course if you can afford for your mail servers to be down dont bother.





But this is the least of your issues.. are these users multi-site? at 7000 users, I would presume so... how many sites? What is your network bandwidth at each site?

2) Next, you click the "empty" link just to the right of your Trash folder. That will permanently delete them from your ability to reference them again... I don't know what happens at Yahoo!s end after that. I assume they are deleted.

You'll need to contact your Internet provider. Call their tech support line. In order to setup Outlook Express, you'll need to ask them for:





1. Your username (usually your email addy)


2. Your password


3. Your outgoing mail server


4. Your incoming mail server


5. Whether the server requires authentication





Once you have that, it's a matter of filling in the blanks!

Several emails I sent via Outlook hours ago STILL have not gone out. I send myself bcc's, so that I am aware when the emails are actually sent out. Most of them are delayed at least 6 hours, but the time delay is not entirely consistent.





What IS consistent, is that Yahoo has had this problem OVER A WEEK! and has not made any public admission of the problem, even tho many of us actually pay for Yahoo's Mail Plus.

At my work, during our lunch we are allowed to use and surf the internet however the person who manages the server does more nosing around than managing it. Can that person say get my password to my yahoo email or other webpages off the server? It really isn't all that I don't think. Yes he can snoop through the packets you send. My suggestion is that if your information to be secure make sure the website has https: in the address bar. This encrypts the data so he wont be able to read it! Yahoo does this on the login screen for example.
Reply:Your Yahoo password is not stored on a server, unless you have Roboform or something else, and then it's only stored on your hard drive if you have individual desktop units. If you have a mainframe computer, then you might have a problem.


However, I think it there is only a very slim chance that the nosy person can get your bank information, as that also has to be put in each time you log in, like your Yahoo ID and password. She would have to be VERY competent to search the packets as they go through the server, and be an accomplished hacker at that. You said that isn't likely, so I think you are safe. However, this situation certainly bears watching to see what this person does besides snooping!

That will require administrative rights to install a cleaner such as CCleaner. Unfortunately they already know where you've been if your system administrator is worth a salt, so it's really a waste of time.
Reply:in the top of your screen there should be a small search box if google is your home page it will be in the top left corner. then there should be a small down arrow it will say something about history. you want to click clear history. this will delete past sites on your computer that you have visited. to delete your emails go to inbox and check all of your emails there will be one box at the top where you can check all of them at once. then press delete. same goes for sent and drafts.

I have installed outlook and when it started it downloaded and deleted all the messages from my BtOpenworld Inbox.


I want to put them back on the server so I can access them from anywhere.


Is there a way to do this?


I have now checked the box in Outlook to leave mail on the server, but I need to put all the others back.

i work for a small business (15+people). my boss has recently purchased two blacbkerry's and while he had one before, i think there will be more added before too long. we currently do not have an exchange server or anything like it, although i have everyone setup through outlook 2003. spam is a HUGE issue in our office and also i think it woudl be great if we could share calendars and view our actual outlook / calendars from outside the office. problem is, i just don't know where to start. i am NOT an IT person by trade but i do handle it for my office. i'm just trying to figure out if exchange is the way to go (or something similar) or is there another solution made for smaller businesses. p.s. setting up a blackberry without exchange is no easy task. i know that exchange would at least make that part easier)





i'm also just looking for a simplified explanation of what exchange does - benefits, tools, etc., drawbacks - can anyone help please???

You should be able to find a "Help" file at email.com which will give you the settings.





I say "should" because I couldn't find one there. I couldn't even find a way to set up an email account with a (name)@email.com email addr. All it appears to be to me is listings of where email accounts can be set up anywhere _but_ email.com.

Is there a problem with the Yahoo Beta email server? I have been getting error messages when logging on.?

Since last Saturday whenever I have tried to access my email I get either a %26lt;URL not recognised%26gt; or %26lt;we have detected a problem with your browser%26gt; error message. Several attempts later, having changed nothing, it works - until I try to access the mail homepage again - with same result.

Is there a problem with the Yahoo Beta email server? I have been getting error messages when logging on.?
Most everyone on Yahoo Mail Beta is having similar problems. I am too during the day! I have cleared the cache and history, booted into SafeMode with networking, cleared all temp files and still cannot fix the problem.





This is a definite Yahoo issue and they are not providing any info as to why so many are having the problem.





I suggest switching back to the original version. You cannot change back to the original w/o accessing beta first. It works at night. Log in then to use the Switch Back link everyone answers about.





There is a site you can access to check your Beta mail if you keep getting Page Not Displayed or a blank screen. It is crued and text only, but you at least you can check your mail. Here is the link: http://wap.oa.yahoo.com

I also got annoyed when the system displays all the adverts but doesn't handle the mail. yes the adverts pay for the service, or delays int he ad severs causing a time out error

You have to enter the full server address. If you are using Yahoo Mail then the server data is plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com and plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com. Also set your ports correctly or you will get errors. the correct port for pop is 995 with SSL enabled. The SMTP port is 465 ssl enabled. If that does not work use port 25 ssl not enabled. Also make sure your outgoing server is set to use authentication.

First you can send yourself a test email and see it you get in one of your boxes,maybe in Bulk and second if your email was not received it would be returned as undeliveralbe Mailer Daemon. Have you had any of this? Also check your Sent box for your outgoing.

Sometimes I call my server. Last time it was two hours--their nickel. The person asked at first if there was construction going on nearby. I said yes, across the street. *Two hours* later she said, "Oh, the service seems to be out in your area!" Like duhhhhh!





Another time I called Comcast--again two hours. I was under the desk checking the wires, as they had said, when DH came home and said, "Ummm, honey? We don't *have* Comcast!"

Your ISP should supply you with that information. Some ISPs have 24 hour online help which you could ask, others only have regular business hours.

If you are trying to use Windows Mail, it doesn't work with web mail. Try using Outlook.
